Rabid Animals

I wrote this the day after I got home so I guess I am getting better. I found their response (or lack of) to be really bizzare:

To the editor:

This seems odd to me; has this happened to any other readers? My wife and I saw a skunk that was acting very strangely. Walking in circles, not afraid of cars or people, not responding to loud noises and seemingly ready to keel over. It appeared that it could have been rabid.

My wife called the town supervisor’s office to inquire if someone could come out to inspect. She was given a phone number of some gentleman who works at a local animal agency. She was told that he could come out and get rid of the animal but there would be a fee.

I would think that if there were a rabid animal in town that can endanger children and other animals, the town would want to come out to investigate and then remove the animal - part of the whole tax deal we have with them.

We were not asking them to come in to remove a squirrel from our attic. But I guess it’s every man, woman, child for themselves situation instead.

What to do at 4 a.m.

I took the original shot, the top one, then applied a couple of PhotoShop filters to it. What a great tool PS is

How they make Crescent Rolls

My Turn

In all fairness to Dana, I've gone through two ice cream scoopers and am now on my third. So I guess we're even

Early Morning Walk

Original Photo

PhotoShop Treatment

I got up early today, 5 am. The sky was clear as a bell but it was 14 degrees out and very windy. I wanted to go outside since next week at this time I'll be at SK with tubes coming out of everywhere. So I suited up with thermals, ski pants, sweatshirt, jacket, hat and gloves and went to the lake. The sky was amazing. I laid down on the wooden dock and watched the sky, hoping to see some meteors. I didn't see any but there seemed to be many planets out there. The lake was alive too. I could hear the ice expanding and contracting and cracks would start on one end and work their way down to me. Awesome.
I can't wait for things to thaw and me to be able to kayak again. It should be good therapy for me in about a month. On my walk back, I stopped and took a photo of Bocci's, a good Italian place right on the lake.

Another One Bites The Dust

Help! We are running out of saucepans. This is the third pan that has come apart while (ahem) Dana was (ahem again) cooking in the past year and a half. On the bright side, at least when this one came apart the molten steel didn't drip on our tile floor and ruin it like the last one did.

I feel bad for the boys with me going into the hospital next Friday for a week. I hope they survive

881 - WTF

How can I have read the signs wrong? I obviously woke up too early and should have been in the Bahamas. 881 came up. Tonight is a drawing for $170 million. Of course, I opted for the lump cash payout, not the 20 year one.

On another note, a bunch of us are going out to lunch today. Sort of a see ya later Phil type thing (even though I'm there part of next week too). There are 13 of us going, too Last Supper like for me.

26.2 / 62.6 / 6:26

I woke up today as usual, and jumped in the shower. When I got out, I checked the temperature outside. It was 26.2 degrees. The temperature inside was 62.6 degrees.
I went in to wake Dana and it was 6:26.
Needless to say I bought a lottery ticket today...

I think I've bottomed out as far as having something interesting to say goes

See, I Can't Stop

I have two things, no three things I wanted to mention.
Item # 1:
I got an email from this Clown from the circus

I had posted a video I took in January of some of the circus. I see it as free publicity for them but they see it differently it appears.

I wrote back:
It's also some free publicity. As you wish, needless to say we will no longer visit it.

So I took it off YouTube. I only had 402 hits on it there anyway. I can't believe that I have 1323 views on it on google video. I did notice that I had 7 hits yesterday so I guess they will be after me later this week.

A close second was the video of Jack (Grif) beating me in Air Hockey with 1192 views. I've had 3281 views all toll on my posted videos. I think that's pretty remarkable since they ALL didn't come from my Mom.

Item # 2: Last January a friend had sent me an email about some guy who peed on the toilet seat where he works. This is a MAJOR communications/entertainment company. Then in May there was this followup. Now, I had seen my friend the other day and he said that his group has now moved to another floor, away from the BossMan. I asked him if the peeing stopped. He's going to bring it up at the next mangers meeting. This was funnier when I had the idea this post I think. The deterioration of a funny story.
I guess it went down the toilet...

Item # 3: Lastly is that Dana has a wedding gig this Friday night as a solo violinist. She will be playing a Kenny G song as a processional at a Lesbian wedding.
I told her she should play Here Come the Brides.
(not that there's anything wrong with it)

When i-Pods are outlawed
only Outlaws will have i-Pods

This commentary was written by CBSNews.com's Dick Meyer.
I know the term "nanny state" is supposed to be derogatory but I don't have a problem with it. Especially if the nanny is British, old-fashioned, strict and spiny, like Margaret Thatcher.

So Carl Kruger doesn't really fit my image of the archetypal nanny statesman. Kruger is a Democratic state representative from Brooklyn and he has the accent and schlumpy bearing to prove it.

Wednesday, he became my current hero as he introduced legislation to ban iPods from pedestrian use in the intersections of big city streets in New York state. If Rep. Kruger's wisdom prevails, anyone nabbed crossing a street with iPod pods crammed in their ears will get tagged with a $100 ticket. If only Barney Fife could have lived to see this day.

Kindly Kruger is doing this for our own good. He's concerned about the safety of pedestrians. Apparently, a 21-year-old man in his district was, um, permanently unplugged when he stepped into traffic while listening to his music-spewing device. Personally, I am inclined to think that such incidents, however tragic, show Darwinism at work. Perhaps I am being uncharitable. Whatever: my interest in Kruger's legislation lies elsewhere.
