New Juicer
Sorry about the last post, Kat pointed out that it was a rerun. Well I got my new free juicer the other day. It's great! I've been juicing for about 6 weeks and it's really great. Not only am I getting my 5 or so servings of fruits and veggies a day, it gets absorbed into my system in about 30 minutes, it's been helping a lot with the side effects form the other issues I deal with so afteralmost 2 years, I've figured something major out.

5 Weird Habits
ground rules: the first player of this 'game' starts with the topic '5 weird habits of yours' & people who get tagged need to write a blog entry about their 5 quirky habits as well as state this rule clearly. In the end, you need to choose the next 5 people to be tagged & list their names.
1) I snore in French.
2) I can't watch the credits of a movie without saying "Look, Whit Bissell"
3) I am always burning my arms when taking food out of the oven.
4) It can take me forever to start something, like a dietary change or an ecercise program, but when I do I easily become obsessed with it (like kayak 81 days in a row).
5) I can't finish reading a book at all lately. I tried getting them on tapes or CD's, Same thing, I don't finish them.

How Much?
This morning my wife was getting ready to take a bath. I walked into the bathroom and she was standing naked on the bathroom scale. I asked her "How much...?" She gave me a look like I was propositioning her. I finished the sentence with "... do you weigh? She said 100 with no clothes, 105 with clothes. I went to the bank today to take out $100 just in case...

I'M ONLY MADE OF PARTS

Oil Man:
When an old man’s droolin’ spittle
And loose around the middle,
And with a worn out heart.
It’s because they keep exhumin’,
To the point that I’m inhuman,
And I’m only made of parts.
On a bender, I go mental,
I’m less than continental,
Disregarding life and art,
I defend the broken arrows,
As a boy I shot at sparrows,
Now I’m only made of parts.
For a fee, I’d drain the sea,
To pump the oil below…
Dubithy: Wherefore art thou, Conoco?
Oil Man: An oily teat… light and sweet!
Just to stop the drills transocean,
heresy, commotion,
I think I’d fall apart.
I say bung, I’m the skipper,
Are you shocked, a double dipper?
For a war I’ve got to start!

Public Service Announcement...
Gentlemen (and Ladies) : I am writing to you to warn you of something that happened to me as I am a victim of the latest scam at a mall while shopping. This happened at the Garden State Plaza Mall and it could happen to you. Here's how the scam works. Two good looking twenty-something year old women come to your car as you are leaving the mall while your are placing your packages on the floor of the frontseat. One starts wiping your windshield with a rag and Windex while the other comes to your window saying "Hi" while bending over with her breasts almost coming out of her blouse. It will be impossible not to look. When you thank them and offer them a tip, they say "No" and beg you for a ride to the Paramus Park Mall. When you agree and tell them to sit in the back seat. On the way, they start having sex with each other in the back seat. Then one of them climbs over into the front seat and starts to perform oral sex on you, while the other one steals your wallet. I was assaulted last Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, but I couldn't find them Saturday or Sunday.
Be careful......

3 things MEME
I've been tagged folks by Yoda for a wonderful MEME :-)
"The rules are simple: now that you have been busted, you must confess to 3 things that you do that others don't know about."
This is very difficult for me, I have pretty much spilled my guts about everything to everyone. I mean, I could talk about the time I satisfied 5 women at one time (All I did was left the room) or the times I got rid a a fierce beast that invaded my son's room (a mouse made it's way upstairs when we first bought our house) but I have decided on these:
1) I hate puke. The thought of it makes me want to, well, puke. I can clean up baby/kid poop with little or no problem, well in all honesty, I'm not a big fan of poop but barf is just plain old gross. I have pretended to be asleep when one of the boys puked and did not get up to help Dana.
2) I hate to clean out the food strainer in the kitchen sink. I don't like food that has been sitting in water and is all gross. For some reason I imagine that I have to eat the food. I think, well...I can see being in a situation like a prison camp or starving in the woods and I'll have to eat something like that and I probably would think that it was a treat. Yuck!
3) Even at age 48, I still sometimes think there is a boogie man living in our basement. Really I think he still lives in my Mom's basement but he has a subcontractor that lives in our basement.
So misery loves company. I have tagged the following people.
Dakota
Cherish
Schprock
As Yoda and Paula said ... if any of you didn't do the meme, I'd totally understand.

The Guitar Marathon
450 Years Of Spanish Guitar
Born on March 8, 1944, in Málaga, Spain, Pepe Romero is the second son of "The Royal Family of the Guitar", The Romeros. His father, the legendary Celedonio Romero, was his only guitar teacher. His first professional appearance was in a shared concert with his father when Pepe was only seven years old.
My brother and I went to this condert today in the city. It really was great. Pepe Romero was the headliner at the show and for good reason, he is one of the best living classical guitarists. It was also great to see Bill Kanengiser who is a member of the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet (LAGQ) who I've seen at the 92nd st Y. He was also Ralph Machio's guitar coach and the guy who played in the movie "Crossroads" (yeah, I know, what movie?) He's a great guitarist too. This other guy played a baroque guitar (I know, why didn't he fix it if was baroque) We also saw Dominic Frasca who played a 10 string guitar and does all of this computer stuff with it too. He plays in his bare feet so he can manipulate a computer with his toes. On the link for his name, is a sample of some of his work. It was a good night, I'm staying in the city so I can go over to SK in the morning for fun and games but it's always nice to get out for a concert.

All Juiced Up

Part of my Phillie makeover for this year is to eat healthier. I've needed to do this for a long time, but with my circumstances being as they are, I figured why not start now. I don't use the term resolution because I never keep them. So about 2 1/2 weeks ago, I took the juicer that my sister in law gave to us about a year or so ago. It was their old one (they got a 12 horsepower turbocharged one) but it worked fine. More on that a little later. I've been making a drink every morning that consists of the ingredients that I listed in the photo. Sometimes it varies a little but it always seem to have apples, oranges, carrots and some green stuff. Either spinach or kale. There is a great organic farm by us that still has spinach or kale, apples, yams fresh breads.

It's a really great place. They have even more stuff in the summer and the cost really isn't too much more than the supermarket stuff. so my morning ritual has been to cut up all of this fruit and veggies, throw them into the juicer, and in a few minutes I get a large glass of fresh juice that gives me about 5 servings of my RDA of fruits and veggies just like that! I can't believe how much more energized I have been feeling, not to mention how my digestive system is working much better. Now one other cool thing about this juicer is that it was missing the food pusher, so I went to Hamilton Beach's web site to see about ordering a replacement part. Apparently, this unit has a recall on it because the metal and plastic cutting basket that spins at 500 rps has been known to break apart and attack the unsuspecting juicer. I called the number they listed on the web site and they sent me a letter offering me either $10, or a brand new juicer ($40 value) I opted for the new juicer. I can't wait to get it. Until then I have to juice at my own risk...
PS - To answer Cherish's comment, the juice tastes really good. I usually add a little more fruit than green stuff. The celery can be tasted and al long as it's not too strong it's ok. I know some people who drink wheat grass. That, I've been told, is like licking the bottom of a lawn mower...

"Ahh, but the strawberries that's... that's where I had them. They laughed at me and made jokes but I proved beyond the shadow of a doubt and with... geometric logic... that a duplicate key to the wardroom icebox DID exist, and I'd have produced that key if they hadn't of pulled the Caine out of action. I, I, I know now they were only trying to protect some fellow officers... "

Reminder: Postage Rate Hike
Effective 8 January 2006 the new postage rate is .39 for standard first class mail. An increase of just over 5%. To commemorate this increase, the U.S. Postal Service has created a stamp with a picture of George W. Bush honoring his first-term achievements.
It has already been shown that the stamp is not sticking to envelopes, enraging the President, who has demanded a full investigation.
After a month of testing, a special presidential commission has made the following determinations:
1. The stamp is in perfect order.
2. There is nothing wrong with the applied adhesive.
3. People are spitting on the wrong side.

Dark as a Dungeon
There was a tragedy this past week where 12 miners were killed in West Virginia. My Grandfather on my Mom's side was a coal miner. He was born in the 1880's and was a Catholic in Northen Ireland, not very popular to say the least. He wasn't allowed to go to school and went to what they referred to as a 'Hedge School'. Work was scarce too and that's how he wound up in Scotland. After coming to the States, he got a job working the coal mines in Western PA. He did that for many years then there was an mining accident and his left hand was crushed. The doctor who worked for the mining company said he's be ok. He wasn't ok, he wound up losing his hand. My Grandmother used to hold the nails for him while he would hit them with a hammer. My Mom and her three sisters would always drop the nail. Talk about love...
Here is a Merle Travis song called Dark as a Dungeon that is from the 'Will the Circle Be Unbroken' album.
I never met any of my Grandparents, I wish I had. Some day I will.
here are the lyrics, the sound quality isn't too good
Come all you young fellows so young and so fine
And seek not your fortune in the dark dreary mine
It will form like a habit and seep in your soul
Till the stream of your blood runs as black as the coal
Chorus
Where it's dark as a dungeon and damp as the dew
Where the danger is doubled and the pleasures are few
Where the rain never falls and the sun never shines
It's dark as a dungeon way down in the mine
There's many a man I've seen in my day
Who lived just to labor his whole life away
Like a fiend with his dope and a drunkard his wine
A man will have lust for the lure of the mine
[chorus]
Oh when I am dead and the ages shall roll
My body will blacken and turn into coal
Then I'll look from the door of my heavenly home
And pity the miner a-digging my bones
[chorus]
Where the rain never falls and the sun never shines
It's dark as a dungeon way down in the mine
